Dogs are our closest companions.
And as such, they deserve the very best care, especially when it comes to their health and wellbeing.
Over the years, dog owners have become increasingly attentive to their pets’ needs: better food, regular vet visits, exercise, enrichment.
Yet there is one crucial aspect that is still widely overlooked: sleep.
And sleep quality has a direct, long-term impact on a dog’s physical health, behaviour and lifespan, even if many owners believe there’s nothing they can do about it.
You may have noticed it yourself.
Your dog settles down… then wakes up again 30 minutes later.
Shifts position.
Curls up again.
Every single night.
At some point, you may have assumed:
“That’s just how dogs sleep.”
“That they simply can’t sleep as deeply as we do.”
But the truth is very different.
Just like humans, dogs are capable of sleeping deeply and continuously for 7 hours or more.
So what’s stopping them?
According to a US scientific publication, around 7 out of 10 dog owners allow their dogs to sleep on the floor, on the sofa, inside a crate, or on the bed.
And unless that sofa or bed is extremely soft and supportive, your dog’s body is not receiving the support it needs.
As a result, your dog’s muscles remain constantly engaged to protect vital organs.
Joints and muscles stiffen.
And sleep quality deteriorates night after night.
